What’s been in your CD player/playing on your ipod lately?
BL:
It changes day to day, between us we have pretty varied but strangely cohesive tastes. Lately we’ve been rocking a bit of a Laneway playlist (sadly we’re watching not playing this year) so plenty of DeerHunter & Foals, also some Zookid which is this mega talented 16yr old from England, as well as a healthy amount of Happy Mondays too… Chris has been rocking an Andrew Weatherall ‘Screamadelica Tour Bus Mixtape’ lately – it’s a bit of a BBC boot-leg but well worth looking up. Matt apparently has loads of Music on his iPod – go figure.
FLW:
What was your highlight musically for 2010?
BL:
We recorded our most cohesive CD to date and we’re chuffed to get the songs’ energy just right this time. Recording’s a big learning curve and in the studio it’s easy to waste time and rush things or equally, over-analyse things too much and lose what it is about the songs that makes you enjoy playing them… This time we knew exactly what we wanted from the off and that made us heaps more efficient at getting our sound down. Drew and Luke from Zapata Studios also worked furiously and did us proud.
FLW:
What’s the best concert/live gig you have ever been to?
BL:
I was probably too incapacitated to remember best ones, Underworld probably stand out though as being consistently massive and awesome for me. Chris has seen a few scorchers that are ‘indelibly etched in his brain forever’ such as the Cardiacs at Surrey University 1988; Nirvana at School of Oriental and African Studies and also Bonnie Prince Billy at the Annandale.
FLW:
What’s planned for BhangLassi for 2011?
BL:
Our most ambitious plan to is record an album this year, we’ve got heaps of songs and picking the track listing is itself potentially going to lead to a million minor punch ups. Apart from that, we’ve also been talking about the logistics of playing interstate too, maybe hooking up with other bands on a reciprocal share gear type of basis. It would be great to check out the Melbourne / BrisLantis vibe and see how people outside of Sydney react…. Basically an excuse for a few mini-holidays, good times and to get out of our comfort zone a bit…
